Our Story

At Mountain Med Consulting, we believe in more than just teaching first aid skills – we are driven by the desire to empower outdoor enthusiasts and professionals to take action when it matters most.

The wilderness is unpredictable, and with that comes the responsibility to be prepared. Our passion lies in transforming uncertainty into confidence, ensuring that everyone who ventures into the backcountry has the knowledge and skills to respond effectively in emergencies.

Born from a deep respect for the outdoors and the desire to keep our communities safe, we’ve built a training program that goes beyond the basics. We don’t just teach you how to react in a crisis; we equip you with the mindset, practice, and confidence to lead in moments where others may hesitate.

We understand the unique challenges that come with remote environments – the isolation, the harsh conditions, the critical need for quick thinking.

Why We Do It

Whether you're a seasoned professional or a weekend adventurer, emergencies in the wilderness demand more than just textbook knowledge. They require resilience, adaptability, and hands-on experience. That’s why we prioritize practical, real-world scenarios, preparing our students to face the unpredictable with calm and clarity.

For us, it’s about creating a safer world for outdoor enthusiasts, from those leading groups on multi-day expeditions to families enjoying a weekend hike. We’re here to ensure that, when the unexpected happens, you have the skills to not only react but to make a difference.

Our courses are more than just instruction – they are immersive, tailored experiences that simulate real-life rescues.

How We Do It

Every program we offer is designed with the specific needs of our participants in mind. Whether you’re part of a government search and rescue team or a summer camp staff member, we focus on delivering relevant, cutting-edge training that directly applies to the environments you work or play in.

Our instructors bring passion, knowledge, and years of hands-on experience. They are not just experts; they are fellow adventurers who understand the stakes. We’ve built a culture of support and encouragement, fostering an inclusive learning environment where safety, preparation, and respect for the wilderness come first.

Who We Serve

From government agencies and search and rescue organizations to outdoor guides, outfitters, schools, and nonprofits, we work with a diverse range of clients who share our dedication to safety and preparedness.

Whether you’re looking to sharpen your rescue skills or provide your team with life-saving knowledge, Mountain Med Consulting is here to support your mission.

Meet Our Founder
Jill Weenink

Jill Weenink, the founder of Mountain Med Consulting, has been immersed in the emergency medical field since 2014. With experience as a Primary Care Paramedic in remote and metro areas across Alberta and BC, Jill found solace in the outdoors – a passion that led her to pursue the Adventure Guide Program at Thompson Rivers University (TRU). This program honed her skills in backcountry environments and introduced her to the dynamic world of wilderness medicine.

Jill’s two worlds – emergency medicine and the outdoors – collided when she began teaching wilderness medical courses. Her deep love for the backcountry and her desire to help others respond confidently to emergencies fuels her work. Currently, she is pursuing her Advanced Care Paramedic as well as her training in the Academy of Wilderness Medicine. She works as a paramedic in an ambulance and for an advanced aeromedical rescue company. In her spare time, she volunteers with Nelson Search and Rescue as well as a mental health team that supports her colleagues.

I love working together with groups of students and applying the principles of wilderness emergency medicine to their unique personal or professional setting. With an open and collaborative learning environment, we can share the knowledge and the experience we each bring to the table using that to inspire the confidence to act when presented with even the most difficult situations. I look forward to working with each one of you!”

Although Jill’s work takes her to various locations, Nelson, BC, is home – a place where she finds balance between her professional commitments and her love for the outdoors.

  • Highly Recommend Mountain Med for any outdoor professional!

I had a great course with Jill, she is very knowledgeable and takes an interest in the students learning on the course and tailors it to what they want to learn so there isn't time spent learning things that are not relevant to you and your job or recreation.
